Application Scenarios

Underground Coal Mines: This is the primary application scenario. It is used in all areas where methane (the main component of firedamp) and coal dust may accumulate, such as coal mining faces, haulage roadways, pump stations, and substations.

Other Explosive Atmospheres: Industrial locations with combustible gases, vapors, or dust, such as in petroleum, chemical, and metallurgical plants, provided the environment meets the requirements of its explosion-proof marking.

Typical Controlled Equipment:

Starting/Stopping Mining Machinery: Such as belt conveyors, auxiliary fans, water pumps, shearers, and roadheaders.

Signaling: Used as signal buttons for communication between surface and underground or for signaling in haulageways.

Emergency Stop: Serves as an emergency shutdown switch installed along equipment lines or at critical points, allowing for rapid power cutoff in dangerous situations to protect personnel and equipment safety.

Technical Features

Flameproof Enclosure: Typically made of high-strength cast iron or cast steel, providing sufficient mechanical strength. The mating surfaces of the enclosure (e.g., between the button cover and base) are precision-machined to form a specific “flameproof joint.” In the event of an internal explosion, flames and hot gases are cooled below the ignition temperature of the external atmosphere as they pass through this joint, preventing the transmission of explosion.

Explosion-Proof Rating: Bears a clear Ex Marking. For example, Ex d I Mb indicates: Mining Flameproof equipment, suitable for underground coal mines. For industrial environments, the marking might be Ex d IIB T4/T5, indicating suitability for Group IIB, Temperature Class T4 or T5 explosive gas atmospheres.

Sealing Performance: Utilizes high-quality rubber sealing rings, ensuring excellent dust, water, and moisture resistance. The Ingress Protection (IP) rating typically reaches IP54 or higher.

Contact Structure: Internally employs silver or silver alloy contacts, featuring low contact resistance, high switching capacity, and long life. Usually provides one or multiple sets of Normally Open (NO) and/or Normally Closed (NC) contacts to meet different control logic requirements (e.g., NO for “Start,” NC for “Stop”).

Diverse Actuator Types: Available in single-button, dual-button, and triple-button configurations. Button caps are typically in distinctive colors (e.g., red for “Stop” or “Emergency Stop,” green for “Start,” yellow for warning or intervention) with clear graphic symbols or text labels. Emergency stop buttons usually feature a prominent mushroom-head shape for quick and easy activation.

Reliable Termination Method: Provides a terminal compartment and standard cable entry devices (threaded entries/”bushings”) for easy cable connection and prevention of cable pull-out.

Product Advantages

Exceptionally High Safety & Reliability (Core Advantage): The flameproof design fundamentally eliminates the risk of electrical sparks triggering a mine explosion, making it critical equipment for ensuring safe mining production.

Robust and Durable: The enclosure and internal components withstand harsh mining conditions, including humidity, dust, vibration, and impact.

Long Service Life: High-quality contacts and mechanical design ensure an operational life spanning hundreds of thousands to millions of cycles.

Easy Maintenance: Modular design allows for convenient replacement of the entire button unit or internal contact module in case of damage, without needing to replace the entire terminal base.

Clear and Unambiguous: Distinctive colors and markings enable quick identification and operation by personnel, even in poorly lit underground conditions.

Daily Use

Basic Operational Procedures:

Installation & Wiring (Performed by qualified electrician with power OFF):

Select a suitable location and securely mount the button’s base using bolts.

Route the control cable through the cable entry device into the terminal compartment and connect it to the corresponding terminals (e.g., power, control, earth) according to the electrical schematic. Ensure seals are correctly fitted and gland nuts are tightened to maintain flameproof integrity.

Finally, install the button actuator (cap) and cover.

Routine Operation:

Starting Equipment: Press the green “Start” button. The button may latch or provide a momentary contact to energize the control circuit, initiating equipment operation.

Stopping Equipment: Press the red “Stop” button. This breaks the control circuit, stopping the equipment. This button typically uses NC contacts, ensuring equipment stoppage even if the button fails or the wiring is severed.

Emergency Stop: In an emergency, forcefully press the mushroom-head “Emergency Stop” button. It mechanically latches in the depressed position, cutting off the equipment‘s main or control power. Reset is usually achieved by rotating or pulling the button.

Daily Inspection:

Visually inspect the button enclosure for severe damage and check that cable entry devices are not loose.

Check that the button operates smoothly without sticking or jamming.
